WORKFORCE PANEL Dan Arvizu is senior vice president of CH2M HILL Companies, Ltd., and chief technology officer of the Energy, Environment, and Systems Business Group. He heads the firm's corporate strategic initiatives, intellectual property, and diversity initiatives. A former senior executive at Sandia National Laboratory, he serves on the board of the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Award Conference. (Panel Chair) Paula M. Rayman is a research fellow at Harvard Divinity School's Center for Values and Public Life. In fall 2002 she will become university professor at the University of Massachusetts. Currently a principal investigator of a National Science Foundation Study on Women and Men in Informational Technology, she is nationally known scholar on issues of work and social development. (Panel Expert Leader) Linda Cubero is global strategic program director for business performance at EDS. She has 20 years of leadership experience in the global information technology, aerospace and manufacturing industries. She is a member of the first class of women to graduate from the United States Air Force Academy and serves on the board of the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Corporation, HENAAC. Harold Davis is vice president of Preclinical Safety Assessment and a member of the senior management team at Amgen, Inc. A former head of Navy and Air Force medical research programs, he is president-elect of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, a member of the FDA Scientific Advisory Board, and a director of the California Biomedical Research Association. Allan Fisher is president and chief executive officer of Carnegie Technology Education, and past associate dean of the Carnegie Mellon School of Computer Science. He recently co-authored "Unlocking the Clubhouse: Women in Computing," which reports on a project he led resulting in a five-fold increase in the percentage of women in Carnegie Mellon's program. C. Michael Gooden is the chairman of the board, president and CEO of Integrated Systems Analysts, a systems engineering and computer services firm. He serves on the board of overseers at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Engineering and Applied Science, and on the board of directors of the Smithsonian Institution Libraries and the Professional Services Council. Mike Guyton is vice president of administration, for Oncor Group, an energy delivery company of TXU, the international energy services company, formerly known as Texas Utilities. He is responsible for managing and coordinating quality improvement and employee development, and legal and compliance support. He has over 20 years experience in the energy arena. Thomas Kochan is the George M. Bunker Professor of Management at MIT's Sloan School of Management. He is past president of the International Industrial Relations Association. He has done research on a variety of topics related to industrial relations and human resource management in the public and private sector. Barbara Lazarus, associate provost for academic affairs at Carnegie Mellon University, is an educational anthropologist. Her research focus is on women in non-traditional occupations in the U.S. and Asia. She co-authored three recent books on women in science, engineering, and technical fields. Vivian Pinn is associate director for research on women's health and director of the Office of Research on Women's Health at the National Institutes of Health. She held previous appointments at Howard University, Tufts University and Harvard Medical School. She has been active in efforts to improve the health and career opportunities for women and minorities. Joyce Plotkin has been president of the Massachusetts Software and Internet Council since its founding 16 years ago. She has been a driving force behind several important statewide initiatives including the passage of the first computer crime legislation. She is the recipient of four leadership and achievement awards and has served on several national and international industry boards. Una S. Ryan is president and CEO of AVANT Immunotherapeutics, Inc. She is also research professor of medicine at the Whitaker Cardiovascular Institute of Boston University's School of Medicine, and currently serves on the boards of both the Biotechnology Industry Organization and the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council. Robert L. Shepard is founding executive director of the Science and Engineering Alliance, Inc. (SEA), a consortium of historically black colleges and universities that collectively work to create opportunities for greater access to the federal research and development enterprise. A chemist, he has held research and management positions at Celanese, the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory and U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Ray Smets is
vice president for network transformation and a member of the management
team at BellSouth. A computer engineer and the recipient of multiple U.S.
and international patents, he has served as vice president of the companys
internet and data services and as president of BellSouth Internet services.
Earlier, he established and directed BellSouths advanced intelligent
